Bombus ruderatus male Northantsno
ruderatus worker, NZ, Dave Goulson.JPG - A Bombus ruderatus worker (the Ruderal bumblebee). This individual was photographed in New Zealand, where this bee (along with bird's foot trefoil) was introduced. This species is very variable in colour, with bands of variable brightness, or absent altogether (i.e. all black). When yellow bands are visible, the yellow band at the rear of the thorax is noticably thicker than in the very similar common species Bombus hortorum. by Dave Goulson
